interesting observation: if i close the lid for, say, 1 sec, and then
open it again, after similar time delay as observed in the previous
comment, my thinkpad goes into suspend although i am working in my
desktop (obviously with the lid open). the lid close seems to trigger

this post, comment on what I said earlier, with Windows the touchpad
works, in case someone is interested in having it present to try to give
a solution. I know that there are many of us affected by this problem,

@Califa101, I can also confirm that my BIOS is from 2019.
I do not have a partition set up on my laptop, I completely removed
Windows from it when installing Ubuntu, so unfortunately I will not be
able to test this.

it is outdated. My BIOS is as follows: APTIO SETUP UTILITY 2.20.1270.
I have also enabled the TOUCHPAD option in the BIOS which was disabled

The long production job with the custom built kernel finished
successfully. I'm very confident this fixes our issue. Now running with
5.4.0-40.44 from focal-proposed as a test. I'll let it run for a few
