Yes I think this is some kind of failure to install the Nvidia driver
correctly, such that the Xorg config was missing. It should work
perfectly if installed from the official Ubuntu .deb files or via the

GPU cluster to something modern, like 4.15.0-91-generic. There was quite

On my Dell XPS15, the frequency of the freezes depends on what I am
running. While browsing, doing e-mail, terminal work and the like, it
freezes maybe once every 10 minutes. But while playing Wesnoth, it
freezes at least once per minute(!). It doesn't matter if I run on the
i915 or the Nvidia gpu.

Slow / Broken Boot on Battery

The behavior is the same booting from USB to install the OS, and booting
from NVMe on an installed OS. I'm using disk encryption, but I don't
believe it plays a factor.

I am also Linux Mint 19 with the same symptoms. WiFi works for a few
hours and then no connection until reboot. I found the following tell-
