edc2988c548db05e33b921fed15821010bc74895 is the next kernel I will be
retesting, from the original v4.13..v4.14rc1 bisect. That's the first
point at which I saw symptoms at boot matching what I saw with the most
recent kernel for which I definitely was missing the i915.ko module.

2008-2009 I believe) and yet the firmware went through and the version
number changed. Then again the 2.0 update doesn’t fix anything for this
