I can confirm, the bug still persists even with the most recent kernel
4.11.0-041100 and the most recent BIOS 1.2.2. It's pretty annoying since
it reduces my battery life a lot compared to Windows and also the fan
noise disturbs during the evenings when I am leaving my laptop idle.

I had too many problems with kernel 4.10 to be able to test this, so I
just let this report expire. Anyway, I kinda gave up with investigation.
One thing I discovered, and this is to people who may be reading this
and looking for a solution, was that suspend with 'sudo acpitool -s'
command was wor
I just loaded the stock kernel with the Marc Singer configuration and
changed the preemption mode to low-latency. Running much smoothly now.

The same option was required for the first boot
Right. Missing video hardware acceleration (and missing audio, ACPI) was
due to the kernel extras package not installed. Corrected this situation

Are you sure?
Because as far as I understood, 16.04 is a LTS and shoud last 5 years,
actually I'm running 17.04 which is a STS (9 months), meaning that myself
and others will have to install 18.04.
I say others because yesterday I wanted to install 16.04 on a friend's PC

Using 4.10 kernel and Xorg from HWE package still produces call
traces... Intel firmware installed through additional drivers.

There are problems on 16.04 too, there are lot's of call traces on
kernel log, and sometimes Inspiron 6400 laptop completely freezes.
Here's some call traces:

I do not believe I owned this laptop far enough back to have installed
15.10. I believe the first installation I put on it was 16.04.
Additionally, I tried the kernel boot param of "i8042.kbdreset=1". When
I booted up the next time I saw the following output from xinput:
