Okay I was able to fix this. I tried updating to nvidia-375 in case
that was the issue, and during the install I noticed it was compiling
something with clang instead of gcc. After that I was getting the same
behaviour from both 4.4.0-72 and 4.4.0-75.
I think what happened was:

Marc, from what I can tell, pinctrl-amd is still enabled on all the
Ubuntu kernels, including the sources in the various git repos
(git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-zesty.git etc.)
And I don't think that will change. It is needed for things like
trackpads on some laptops, I believe. Meaning,

hello, have exact same problem. Upgraded to 16.10 from a working 16.04
and now when 16.10 boots up I'm I cant login because the mouse and
keyboard do not work. It connects to WiFi without issues.
How could I install the xserver-xorg-input-all without a working
keyboard/mouse?
