hmmm right now I'm having a hard time reproducing this at all. I'm
currently on stock 4.8.0-27-generic kernel and right now I do NOT
experience the issue at all.
I've done a fair amount of further troubleshooting and this is what
seems to be the pattern for me:
- the problem seems to have complet
With acpi=off, as expected there is no suspend function, battery meter
etc. Shutdown appears to hang. The wireless card does not work (but that
stopped working with the Xenial upgrade). Otherwise the system seems
fine.
I am unable to find any other combination of acpi related boot options
that wor

As a heads up: The Kinect can be very finicky with certain USB
controllers. It works perfectly fine on my desktop with the external 12V
power but on my laptop with the same power, it disconnects constantly
due to I assume a crappy USB bus (Tried on both 2.0 and 3.0 ports)

16.04 LTS.
I tried a few different options in: "Brightness + Lock" but had no luck.
The settings there do affect this issue, but I could not turn off the
old style lock (disaplyed here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/639014
/another-password-prompt-when-waking-from-suspend ) without uninstalling
I rebooted the laptop at ~2 am of Nov 12, so there is no sence to run
"apport-collect" now. However I collected manually system logs for the
period of time when that issue occurred (~ 15:00 of Nov 11 - 2 am of Nov
12).

Definetly the newer kernels (non-officials) use a lot less ram memory
than older one. But the problem comes with WiFi network card.
In my case, I am not able to switch to kernel 4.8.6 because I loss WiFi
conectivity (BCM4312 like any Dell laptop), I need to be stick to kernel
4.4.0 for now.

problem persists. fans keep spinning even when idle.
I have also tried i8kutils while on 16.10, and find that it works fine.

I tried again and can confirm that nomodeset works with kernel 4.4.0-47
and nvidia-367.57.
