Hi Christopher, I am using the kernel from upstream. This bug seems to
be related with DHCP. It seems having a hard time getting connection
when set to DHCP. I gave the laptop a static IP address and it is able
to connect to wifi every time. Won't be comfortable bringing this laptop
anywhere though
Colin had the hunch that this actually happens if the CPUs do *not* have
anything to do, i. e. want to go into a low freq/power state. We
successfully ran the full stress-ng test suite on the instance without
triggering any of this, but a few minutes after it was done it started
hung processes star
Neither did this trigger on two trusty 4-cpu instances so far.

I have no idea about the patch/fix kernel team / process, etc.
I'm just a regular user of linux since 20 years ;)
I googled the problem, found a fix and asking ubuntu to include this fix in
its kernel.
Don't ask me to open another ticket at another system. I don't care. Too
much effor

by plainly booting a standard image.

There are quite a few commits that may also need to be reverted from
3.13 to the 4.2 kernel. There is nothing evident that commit 89fb4cd1f
does that can be easily identified the the Wily and newer code.
It may be best to narrow down the specific kernel version that contains
the second offending

another way to "fix" the bug is to suspend/resume.

Update after shutting down after changes in the snapshot above were
executed:
On clicking shut down I still get an absolutely blank screen.
On startup, bios showed only 2 out of 4 GiB installed RAM

Not able to enter disk encrypt
Latest kernel 4.7.0-040700rc2-generic was tested and the bug still
happens. I couldn't record anything with my video camera and you already
