Can folks affected by this bug see if 3.18.6 is the last good version
and 3.18.7 is the first bad version? If so, I can start a bisect
between these two versions.
3.18.6 can be downloaded from:

Jeremy,
The target was for Utopic (3.16), which didn't have the patch, no worries I'll
add it as well.
I'll put together a pull request for the list soon once I do a test build/boot.

Christopher, my understanding is that a bisect can't be done based on
this paragraph in the original report.
"This is complicated by the fact that the newer firmware requires kernel

Public bug reported:
Upstream i915 code has been feature-frozen for drm-next, and rebasing
i915_bpo to it is fairly simple. We need all the drm_atomic* changes to

i915_bpo is the only driver that uses them, so there's no chance o
Tested with 4.1.0-040100rc6-generic #201506010235. Problem persists.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do!

Public bug reported:
Migrate snd-hda-intel/i915/i915_bpo to use component support for the
driver interface, instead of module symbol lookups.
This has been upstream since 4.0, and lays the groundwork for proper
HDMI/DP-audio support in i915_bpo. Patches cherry-pick cleanly.
