I installed the packages as you directed, Joseph Salisbury. The grub entry was 3.19.0-17-generic. The boot stalled at the usual place. Something about islice, as reported elsewhere in the ubuntu forum. My bug was not resolved by this action. It was fixed by actions mentioned earlier in this thread.
