Ok, crash happened again in 3.13.0-45-generic.
Unfortunately there were no errors recorded.
The symptoms I noticed, happen in this order;
1) Mouse, and keyboard start experiencing high latency periods.
2) Shutdown windows 7 running in VMWare Player v7.0.0

Good news: I have updated the BIOS and now the suspend/resume works
again! Thank you!
At least I think it was the BIOS. I did perform a Ubuntu update one of
the past days out of habit - I should not have done it, to make sure
that only one thing is changed in the system - sorry for that.

There were other known badnesses in the updates on January 20, which is
why I'm pretty sure this is in fact fix-released.
I also have this bug on my Sony Vaio VGN-CS11S, running Trusty. When I
resume from suspend the keyboard doesn't work.

I tried several reboots and several shutdowns all of which succeeded.
The issues started on January 20, after the system updates on January
19. I don't know how the Ubuntu startup system (Upstart) works, but my
guess is that one of those updates caused the race, and a subsequent
update caused the
