dead.
The laptop's built in keyboard and synaptic touch pad (I think it is
vonnected via internal usb, but not 100% sure) still work.

I can see if I can reproduce this issue.
Are you able to boot in to the VM after installation using cirrus? If
so, we can try some different kernel versions to try an narrow down a
good kernel version.

Just a hint - the console rotation works only for me if I remove the
proprietary nvidia drivers and use nouveau instead.

For me, it turned out that the "Caps Lock as an extra control key" was
the culprit. xmodmap was

I doubt Intel Rapid Start is the problem. Also, I configured it to
