I don't think it is 'fixed' as I still get my log filled with the error
message, but I can use hardware acceleration and it will suspend and
resume.

No, the problem persists, even after upgrading to the latest kernel. The
last version of Ubuntu and its derivatives that worked fine was 12.04.

Upstream kernel seems to fix it, When comming back from resume there is an
added glitch of the screen, but networking works right away

On this laptop, the keyboard will occassionally stop functioning after
suspending.
F keys don't work to change to a TTY don't work, can't type password to
unlock the screen. Suspending the laptop and resuming again makes it
work again.
