I had the same issue on a server that has been running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
without a single problem for over two years.
After upgrading to linux-image-3.2.0-64-generic on the system with a
Supermicro X9SCM mainboard, two HighPoint RocketU 1144A USB 3.0
controllers and at least one USB 3.0 disk attach

Each time when I suspend my Lenovo IBM R61i laptop to RAM and was trying
to resume, the Xorg/desktop freezes, I can do nothing but hit the power
botton to restart my system.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Click "Suspend" located within the right-top dropdown of the unity desktop;
2.
Same with Tevii S480 / S482
Upgrade to kernel 3.13.0-29-generic done, no improvement.
The card has been working fine under 12.4 and TvHeadend, / kaffeine
