Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privile
As I said before, I cannot send logs containing hardware information
that could identify the exact motherboard because that would assist
attackers. These machines are encrypted computers handling sensitive
information. That's why I don't have any kind of automatic bug
reporting, etc installed.

On further observation:
The bios time is being set to UT or GMT.
The system time on bootup is being set to IST.
So, would this be a bug or would it depend on some system setting? I am new
to linux/ubuntu, however, I have sufficient exp in software dev. to follow
instructions.

I was testing some other issues today and tested this one as well.
I am currrently running Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy with kernel 3.11.0-15-generic
I can confirm that this problem still exists:

no effect on screen brightness

People mistakenly assign bugs to themselves all of the time. I really
doubt better documentation would help in most of those cases...
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the 'Assigned to' field go away
completely or have write access limited.

I am happy to report that in Ubuntu 13.10, running kernel
3.11.0-15-generic, this issue has gone away, presumably because the
changes in the upstream kernel I had been using for a while got into the
Ubuntu kernel that is currently installed. I had been running an
unsupported kernel for a while and
