I tried using the kernel version that came with the released version of
12.04 (on an original install base of 12.04.3), but that seemed to cause
stability problems.
So instead, I installed the original version of 12.04, and that seemed
to work without reporting any problems.

That's correct. They don't boot. The boot hangs when displaying information
for the second disk.
Today tried with bsd kernel (Debian/kfreebsd) and it recognizes the disks

I tested bluetooth using a live disk of Xubuntu 12.04.2 with kernel
3.2.0.52. Initially it shows the bluetooth on, but when I try to set up
new device I get the message "No adapter found". If I turn bluetooth
off, I can't turn it on anymore afterwards.
