the commit that fixed the mainstream build has been backported into
recent stable kernels. Unfortunately, I'm still seeing the bug on my
32-bit kernel (v3.5.0-37), and while it hasn't popped up for the current
64-bit kernel yet
The patch will show up in the stable kernels eventually.

Hi all. As bug 974568 is now fixed, you can install Ubuntu 13.10 saucy
and so long as it's updated (kernel >= ~3.10.0-5) then the brightness
(and other) keys will work during boot. So no workarounds required.

I recently needed to reinstall the OS on my Acer one D257-13473 netbook.
I reinstalled Ubuntu 13.04 and upon doing so, I found that the touchpad
does not work at all. Previously, in 13,.04 (after upgrading from 12.10)
the touchpad did not work, and I cannot remember how I was able to get
it fixed.
This seems to have been fixed some time ago. At least fixed in Ubuntu
13.10 saucy.

I had to bisect the mainline kernel, since the Ubuntu kernel skipped 3.6
(the issue was in every 3.7 kernel I tried). The result:

For unknown reasons I couldnt boot natty from the usb pendrive i was using to
boot for 10.04 too.
So I tried to install again a new 12.04 amd 64 and it works out: I can
shutdown/reboot.
What can I do that could help to make any deep comparison of my new system
state with the information we have
