Did i mis-read the comments in phabricator? It looks to me, as if the commit
had been reverted before 17.12?
Anyway, I installed kdepim 5.7.0 and it has the same behavior: Locally created
events are pushed

I also tested it again today and can report it's working again with mailbox.org
(Open X-change).

Yes: a locally created event was synced to the server and a remotely created
event was synced to my PC
Note: I'm on a fairly recent version:
