Yeah, I'm also very happy about it working =)
The most important thing is to keep it working is to set:
sysctl net.local.stream.recvspace=65536
sysctl net.local.stream.sendspace=65536
as mentioned by the akonadi pkg-mesage :)

Not sure what has changed, but after my latest upgrade I've been using kmail
steady since last Friday or so and no sign of the weird mailbox display issues
