Solved:
I found kwalletmanager and kwalletmanager5 installed.
kwalletmanager is uninstalled, the kwalletmanager startmenu entry got deleted
and everything is running fine.

I have used the AppImage on a modern linux distro and do not have any problems.
The code base is very small for that project though so the background parse

I tested some more:
Krita crashes with brushes that build up or smudge.
Painting in the preview area works with washing brushes.
Disabling OpenGL or instant preview doesn't make a difference.
