thanks, not sure what this gitcomit and lib things mean exactly, do you imply
that I need to recompile the thing myself to test it? I thought it'd be auto
compiled into the daily build or perhaps the link

no go, the effect is still missing in the new version.
nevermind & no rush, I swtitched to another editor as kdnelive on mac isn't
able to use HW codec anyway. hope it'll be fixed eventuall
