This comes up not just in telepathy, but also the new "Online Accounts" area of
KDE System-settings on Kubuntu 17.04.

Confirmed - downgrading nvidia driver from nvidia-340 to nvidia-304 solved
this, in case anyone comes here wondering what the *fix* is. :)
