Also, I just noticed I forgot to mention:
I use Nvidia with drivers 550.120 and I'm on X11. Haven't tested on Wayland due
to Wayland being too terrible with Nvidia GPU.

Good news. I figured out the issue. Somehow &t_8u is being automatically set

FWIW, I've uploaded the filtered output from our scripts -- the java bit is at
the end. So, we don't have to look at or bother with what the JVM itself does
