I'd never thought about that. I suppose as long as the result would be visible,
it makes more sense to create a mini annotation.

In step 3, you should just click and release, taking care not to move the mouse
in between.
The only reason I emphasized this was because it's quite easy to do
accidentally, but it makes the bug disappear.
