With the radeon driver, the issue in not present. I don't know if it's amdgpu
fault only or a combination of both Plasma and amdgpu, but radeon is working
well.

I'm not 100% sure because I have no means to objectively measure this, but it
looks like the animations to switch from a virtual desktop to another are
butter smooth.

No, there's no difference. Only by disabling the compositor everything is fluid
as in Windows.
