I just noticed something that may clear the problem but add to the confusion.
The name of the file was given by a professional film digitizing enterprise and
contains an umlaut, i.e. a specific German chara

The file concerned had not been moved or edited in any way. Strange thing is
that when I tried to manually locate it it didn't appear in the list of files
while the file manager (dolphin) showed it and also

What kind of file is it? Is it in another drive? Did you move/rename it after
closing Kdenlive?
