Adding clip to the timeline and playback is still fluent when you set to WinMM?
What CPU and sound card/processor do you have?

I can start it, and edit settings, but it crashes as soon as I create a new
project. Changing to Directsound or Wasapi didn't help.

Can you start Kdenlive? If so -> CTRL+Shift+, (coma) -> Playback -> Audio
driver -> try Wasapi or DirectSound (or WINMM for Win7).

The audioclientcore.cpp error could be a microphone or webcam restriction in
Kaspersky antivirus or other antivirus programs. Please check your antivirus
settings.
