Oops, there is a better method! Create the following directory:
~/.local/share/plasma/look-and-feel/org.kde.breeze.desktop/contents/osd/
And then put the following files in it:
OsdItem.qml: http://pastebin.com/PZ69qucR

For those who are interested, you can replace OsdItem.qml and Osd.qml in
/usr/share/plasma/look-and-feel/org.kde.breeze.desktop/contents/osd/
to change or remove the volume and backlight OSD. I'm currently using
OsdItem.qm
