Same for me.
I found a way to restart syncing once but the way is far from being
comfortable.
1. switch to the calendar tab.
2. select KOrganizer configure
3. switch to the Calendar tab.
4. start configuration

I just installed an update of the nvidia driver (OpenSuse Leap) and the problem
is solved. I enabled openGL (2.0/3.1) in the Compositor's configuration page
and the system doesn't switch back to XRender
