Hi,
I've searched high and low but couldn't find a satisfactory answer to
the question: why do all KDE/Plasma apps warn "Failed to establish
shared memory mapping, will fallback to private memory -- memory usage
will increase"?
I have /dev/shm mounted (tmpfs) and /dev/shm has drwxrwxrwt mode bits
at plasma

Hi Duncan,
I just discovered that a newly created account doesn't suffer from this
warning. So what option in my carefully crafted (kde) configuration could
be responsible for plasma/kde not being able to initialize shared memory?

Solved the problem by recreating my home folder and only copying documents,

Thx for thinking along with this! I do have a synaptics touchpad and
configuring it does ring a bell...

I tend to do a lot of
killall plasmashell; plasmashell &
in konsole lately, due to many small plasma/systray related (presentation)
bugs. You get used to it...
Maybe it helps you with this as well?

Hi,
I want to raise a question about the current state of EGL in plasma? I ask,
because recenlty I've been experiencing severe instability issues using
EGL, although I was under the impression that EGL was "the way forward"?
(It turned out "Vulcan" is, but that's a different story).

Hi Kevin,
Thx for your insightful reply!

I don't know if you've recently upgraded to 17.10 (Artful) but that's
know to ship with a bad release of libfreetype (2.8.0) that has severe
TrueType font hinting regression.
You can read everything about the bug here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=376630
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?i
As a temporary work-around for the current Qt font styleName handling
problems I removed the styleName from font settings in kdeglobals and
Trolltech.conf, which solved all my problems after upgrading
libfreetype to 2.8.1

The same here, but ONLY on a postgres storage backend.
MySQL and sqlite should be deprecated and postgres should be the default,
that's all.

Hi,
The company I work for will migrate mail to O365 and we, the linux people
are fighting to get this working in our favorite clients (davmail is
mentioned a lot!). It seems kmail has an option to get this working:

But it does
the "imaps" and "smtps" service in ms-exchange,

For what it's worth: I'm using the plasma Application Launcher and set the
activation shortcut to meta+esc, which automagically launches the launcher
on meta.

I have seen some weird stuff with Chrome and Plasma lately as well, but
they come and go with reboots and/or newer versions.
