I had to turn off Virtosoe completely. It was eating up my CPU usage

sufficient to clean up the lost memory. I was suffering total freezes

Not sure haven't tried it but I'd think it'd be fairly easy to port it over
yourself. All a theme is, is a series of images and a cfg file, or at least
used to be. I used to mod them all the time myself. Haven't done so in
quite a few years though. Remember Linux = total control over your system.
Instead of a search engine what would be useful is an equivalents app with
lots of choices including non-KDE software in many cases. Most of the time
the best of breed for an app is a KDE app. Nothing approaches K3b in my
opinion though there are now imitations of K3b for Gnome and other
desktops.
I'm going to disagree with you there DE. KDE is the most user friendly of
desktops I've yet found. Odd behavior plagues all desktops, especially
windoze. That Unity insanity which Windows 8 apparently attempted to
mirror, trying to walk a new user through that garbage is like trying to

removing .kde I would think would solve any account specific issues. What
you might try is creating or logging in as another user on a term window.
Then start tail on key logs and go log in as yourself in the GUI, come back
and watch what's going on. Or you can just look at the time stamps, though
You could try old Red Hat, Debian or similar distros. They will have the
source code.
Good luck compiling it. So much has changed since then in terms of
libraries that you'll have your work cut out for you. So you probably want
to run an ancient distro on as old a machine as you can find while wor

That's not a big issue for me since I only use Kmail to open mail archives
and cannot use it in KDE 5 anyway as it brings up Akondi and Akondi buries
my system. I'll download the strait Ubuntu rather than Kbuntu and see if
Trinity is supported on that and give it a try. I use Chrome primarily,

I'm using the default SDDM. I don't see Neon in the process list, SDDM

I had the same issue. Akondi was clobbering my system and making it utterly
unusable. It is a resource MONSTER. I wouldn't even consider running it
without at least 16 gigs of ram and the way I multitask I doubt that's
enough.
I got it stopped, don't remember exactly what I did but I think I foll

up from about 10 seconds after I reboot until I reboot again or after
2 or 3 months I might kill it and restart it to recover memory lost to
memory leaks if a kernel update hasn't forced me to reboot in a few
months. All my machines run 24/7.

The thread is about shutting down Akondi and why people want to do so. And
it appears that a lot of people have to shut down Akondi because of
performance reasons. Not just from this thread. A quick google search turns

So assuming a modern machine and a power user is not a good assumption with
Linux anymore.

I never got Discover working on KDE Kubuntu 16.04 KDE 5.5.5 I use
Synaptics instead. Luckily I got enough functionality out of the software

Yes I am using older machines. Mostly machines given too me as keeping the
lights on is a challenge most months. If somebody wants to donate a machine
too me that has 8 gigs of RAM please do
han wasting gigs on apps I never use or rarely
use. I thought the whole idea of Plasma was to reduce the foot print not
make it this massive overwhelming machine killing gigantic monster app you
cannot configure or edit to suit your needs. If I wanted that I could leave
Windows on the machine.

For SSH I've found it's easier to SSH to the Mac than from it. There are

Two corrections. I use Krusader, not even sure Konquerer still supported.
The other is Fugu was the sFTP client I used to use, but is totally
unreliable today on Macs.

Akondi is a monster that drove me away from KDE. If you do not have the
latest greatest machine and multitask, Akondi will bring your machine to
it's knees, then flog it, then draw and quarter your memory resources,
grind your hard drive into dust, then chew up the remains. I had to switch

Marak most people cannot afford a high end machine today. Me included. The
