I think I'm seeing the same issue. We try a shallow clone, but the clone
will still timeout after 30 minutes sometimes. Did you ever figure out the
issue.

I have Jenkins 1.540 with latest git-plugin. Also I have large repo ~1,3 GB.
Shallow clone of this repo is about ~70 MB.
Of course I'd like to download shallow and I checked corresponding checkbox
in job configuration.
