Diagnose NullPointerException in SCM polling

I'm having an issue with an NPE occurring when Jenkins attempts to perform an SCM poll for any job. SCM checkout from SourceGear Vault seems to work correctly when I manually kick off a build. Could someone provide guidance on how to further investigate the cause? Environment: Jenkins 1.596,
