I'm from the UK. My Mother tells me that it
was impossible for a single woman to get a bond/mortgage when she was in her
20's... only 40 years ago.

I think it would be more in generic character for a woman to appraise men
after getting to know them... as women are more attracted by personality and
men by good looks. I wonder if woman also put more importance on security
and would look at a man twice if she knew he was a good earner/provider.
