The PHP_Compat code is faulty too -- the S in variables_order etc.
refers to _SERVER, not to _SESSION.

Turns out that even though the missing functions had no impact
in code, they do indeed cause the register functions process
to throw an error, leading to a sigseg fault.
At least it encourages tight and tidy code!

I have a working C++ extension, based on the class-factory model I'm exploring,
but which is throwing a bizarre segmentation fault.
What makes it bizarre is that it is centred on the inclusion of an include file
(myexternalinclude.h) that is part of an ext
