The outgoing mail _is_ in the MUA, but it may not be visible by default.
In the *Groups* buffer, just "join" the archive folder for outgoing
messages by hitting 'j' followed by the name of the folder, e.g.,

By default Gnus saves a copy of outgoing messages in nnfolder:sent-YYY-MM.
You can configure gnus-message-archive-method to do something else.
