hi,
well
i am not pretty sure about this myself, but i think this is how it
works.
Once
u log into Linux (or UNIX), all ur programs(processes) are associated with ur
control terminal. Now if this contol terminal gets killed then all the process

I
noticed some other behaviour. When a process was being run as a background
process and session is closed. Its parent ID changed to 1. So even if the parent
gets killed the child should survive.

hi
again,
sorry
for late reply. but i fugure that the parent ID changes to 1 cause the
background process now becomes a zombie process. that is its parent is dead and
so ID 1 takes the ownership and turns the process into a zombie
process.

Here the only point I would like to mention is:
control terminal => shell
Shell is the parent of all processes originated under
it. If you don't specify nohup, shell gets killed when
you logout and all its children die. Makes sense?

Try removing /root/.bash_history - assuming you want to remove the history for root.
For any other user
remove /home/$user/.bash_history
If you want to switch off this feature totally - change the profile of the user.
