Hi,
Below is a fragment from a grammar I've written. I've had to modifiy is so that
an expression may or may not be enclosed in parenthesis
However, which ever way I try to remove the recursion I either end up by
reducing teh expressivness or by re-introducing the recursion.

Isn't the optimisation of:
foo -> foo
to
foo
something that antlr could do fairly easily?
List: http://www.antlr.org:8080/mailman/listinfo/antlr-interest
ce slows things up.
And I think a=a; is fair game if you know that operator= has no side
effects.
Which is true in Java, and you can define to be true for other antlr parse
tree constructs.
Or have I missed something obvious? (Been a long 4 day week, somehow)

higher value (ideally scoped by production) to resolve ambiguities,

left-factoring, semantic or syntactic predicate. Similarly for

A better option might be for you to use ANT or Maven to manage your builds,

Hello,
This is a pretty vague question. I'm using ANTLR to translate COBOL code into
use-case diagrams, and when parsing my AST, I need some way to access function
bodies at function calls (or whatever functions are called in COBOL). In my
