We have one mail contact for the mail notifications and other for the sms
notifications, but now we would like get the mail notifications only if the
services has our sms contact defined.
Something like:
apply Notification "mail-icingaadmin" to Host {

That's not what I asked.
I meant what scenario, not what tools.
I have icinga2 running already but i'm not monitoring remote hardware,
only remote availability via icmp or tcp port (like http, pop, etc).
I was thinking maybe somebody does this on a large enough scale and can
recommend a theoret
Well is extend-sh with snmpd is not something you want to do ( Which for
reasons, you are not using ) you have basicly 2 things you can do
- Passive checks: Cronjob runs your smartctl, then it sends a reply to your
Icinga server with status ( issue here is machines have to be able to

Hmm, as long as those boxes talk to icinga2 server via tls only then i'm
ok with it (shouldn't I be?)
From what i know, icinga2 talks to other instances of itself via
automatically created ssl certs and uses tls 1.2
The other approach is interesting but i have no experience with xinetd

From what I understood, there already are some nagios plugins for
checking smart (found some on the exchange).
That's not the point however, i can write some myself even if there
weren't.
