We are currently using graphite with it integrated into icingaweb2 but
want to migrate away from it.
What are others using or have experience with and suggest as the currently
most optimal solution?

Hyphen is allowed in a variable name, but not written that way. Please
use vars.elb["discovery-premium"] instead and you should be fine.
