They are defined in z/OS but show offline. I can attach them and everything
works fine. I’ll do some experimentation today to narrow it down. Thanks

Figured it out. You are all correct … the system when upgraded to a new z/VM
the image had the process to manage the user directory changed. So, what used
to work on my prior system is no longer valid.

Is there a mechanism in z/VM that I need to do outside the directory to
automatically connect the new devices to the guests. After a guest logs out
and then subsequently re-ipl’d I need to re-attach the devices.

I had dinner with Jeff Nick (IBM Fellow for Z) back in ’99. He shared that
Open Edition was initially started to get Posix compliance in MVS as it was a
requirement for Federal data centers to only support Posix compliant OS’. I
don’t think anyone envisioned the criticality of that new subsyst
