The safe way to handle that is to have automation rules that prevent or delay
the start during test windows.

No, there was no reason for either.

Generally I would think that... but then automation suddenly decides
differently.

Does anybody have a reference that I can cite on wikipedia, describing the
influence of IBSYS/IBJOB on the design of OS/360?

I haven't dug into anything here, but this might be something to look at.

That's certainly where I go for manuals, but I'm not aware of any historical
documents on bitsavers going into the history of OS/360 and what influenced it.
I was hoping for an online reprint of relevant articles from, e.g., CACM, IBM
Journal of Research and Development, IBM Systems Journal. Tha
I dont think you'll find such a thing.
I always thought IBSYS/IBJOB were the predecessors of DOS/360, and DOS/360
was written as a temporary holdover to run on the 360 until OS was ready,
because OS was completely new implementation of things on the new machine
(i.e. a completely new OS).

Well, IBSYS/IBJOB certainly influenced DOS, but it also influenced OS, e.g.,
planned overlays.
