This section of our user's guide discusses the common issues that can occur
and suggests possible solutions:
http://www.dovetail.com/docs/sftp/client-compat.html
In particular, in release 2.3.0 we added the "unixls" option to help
mitigate the worst offenders.

Roger,
The FOTS1373 message is being emitted from Ported Tools OpenSSH. Are you
able to connect a basic SSH session to the target system with that z/OS
user?
Because the Ported Tools SSH client can't be run under OMVS, The best way
to test this is to use a generic ssh client to connect to z/OS (
sed by the reception to the product
and our service offerings.

If you would like to pursue the Hybrid Batch / Perl Linux suggestion,
here's a sample Co:Z Launcher job that runs a perl program to read input
data from a z/OS dataset and write the output in .XLS format to another
dataset. The perl program itself is a PDS member on z/OS, so nothing is
required on
ch Processing. This link
provides an overview: http://dovetail.com/solutions.html Also at that
link are a couple of Hybrid Batch case studies that might be worth looking
at.
The Co:Z Toolkit is free to use under our community license.
