All RSU's are not created equal. The quarterly ones (i.e. 2303 2306 2309
2312), are tested by IBM differently and tend to be "easier" to install.
There is NEVER a good reason to skip maintenance for a long period of time.
Only doing maintenance when you install a new copy of the OS is a pret
I have not followed this thread, so forgive me if I repeat anything here
1) JES2 cold starts are rare any more. Most parms can be dynamically changed.
To go back may require a cold start (but rare)
2) Always update your jes2 INIT deck when doing dynamic changes. This is in
case a COLD start
Laurence,
Rather than clogging up IBM-MAIN with a large number of back-and-forth
emails, I would suggest that we take this discussion offline and publish
the final results here when we are done.
I have sent you a LinkedIn connection request to get us started.

You can specify most configuration members like LPA, PROG, OMVS as options on
the D IPLINFO command. The response back will display what was used at IPL time.

I didn't have a policy of regular RSU. But, I would usually bring maintenance
up to current RSU plus HIPER, IBM , etc. midway between upgrades, usually every
other Z/OS release. And, I would always bring my running system as close to
current as was available before starting any upgrade.

Hi all
I need to know which configuration members were used when a zos system IPL,
of course I can confirm them one by one with my eyes, is there any other way to
find them faster such as tools, rexx code and what good ideas. Any suggestions
are greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

We would never take the approach you mentioned. I would hate to explain to my
management that we took an outage due to the fact we had not put on a fix that
had been available for some time. Our philosophy is to apply Quarterly RSU -1
regularly each quarter plus any vulnerability fixes identifie
There is a shop where the current philosophy is to not put on any maintenance
other than a PTF here and there if it is needed for a problem. But no RSU
maintenance. Instead of maintenance, the plan is to just reinstall z/OS and all
related products anytime they want to refresh the maintenance le

It’s an easy fix. Ask the admins to upgrade Python and happy days. Looks like
you’re running beta code or worse on Z XPlore. I would be reluctant to address
any issues from that system.

Mark,
Thanks for you help. I think I found the problem. There is an auto command
where it reset the job number back to 1 each day. I will fixed this.
Thanks

My favorite user ID mess was on an old Vax system that used the last name
followed by first initial. Of course this system began each printed report
with a banner page listing the user's ID printed in large, block letters. One
day I went to the printer and noticed a report from user SEXTONG.

Hello,
I am running z/os 2.4, jes2. I am looking for the jnum or jobid going from a
4-digit number to 5 digit number. Can anyone tell me is it a jes2 parm I need
to change?
Thanks, in advance
