How can empty generated files in the store happen? Has someone experienced this?

As in my critical december failure, I happen once again to have empty files for files expected in my store: path `/gnu/store/31s8mcacwk8mma2kkxak13aawxqp58fg-module-import.drv' was modified! expected hash `274fd21f99bd7505109a1b348d1c46b93a418cb193710b25463a7b06906e82ce', got `77ac62e2629d8e
