Sorry me again. I got guix compiled but make check fails (it hangs also but that's probably just a side effect). I traced it to the bootstrap binaries.  They are 32-bit i386 elf, but this machine only supports 64-bit amd64 elf. I've got some details below but I presume 64-bit only systems
