latest (3.1.2), should I leave it enabled? This setting sounds like a good
thing to keep things clean and tidy. right?

This is an old bug that has been solved in 3.0.5 if I remember
correctly. You should definitively upgrade to latest version

Upgrading the main cf-serverd host to 3.04 solved the problem.
It seems like it was a compatibility issue after all.
