I think the comma is just an artifact of the verbose-printing code.
I would second Neil's suggestion of using methods,

What does this evaluate to $(def.dir_masterfiles)? Looks like
/var/cfengine/masterfiles but the agent is asking for /srv/cf-serverd/inputs.
