Patch to fix working of autogen.sh

I propose to commit the patch below, to allow autogen.sh to work again. This is for 1.8.x and HEAD. The snapshot builder at ftp://ftp.dt.e-technik.uni-dortmund.de/pub/guile/snapshots/ uses autogen.sh, so hopefully this patch will also cause the 1.8.x and HEAD snapshots to start appearing again.
