I'm afraid that I don't quite follow the logic of your explanation.
To me, as far as I am aware, the P&L is, basically, 'How much in' minus
'How much out' equals a profit or a loss.
A finalised transaction, surely, is set in stone - in this case 'Wood' at
€150 cos
Ken, GnuCash should, by default, set those preferences to match your
computer's locale. If you are in Canada, unless you have a good reason
to use a different one, your OS should be set to Canada as your locale.
Then these preferences wouldn't be an issue.

It's a mystery. I am in Canada, my region setting (in Windows 11) is Canada
(and always has been), but the GnuCash defaults were coming up as US
dollars.
However, everything is set as it should be, which is what matters.

I just upgraded my Gnucash to 5.7.1 and it has crashed on me in a couple of
instances. The first is when I try to delete an account and the second
instance is when I try to apply changes when importing a QIF.
I am using Gnucash Version: 5.7, Build ID: 5.7+(2024-06-29), Finance::Quote
