Since you asked "exactly" I'll try my best.
I was entering data to a bank account and then I got the strange message.
I had already entered several items to the a/c when the message appeared.
I suspect I had pressed a wrong key, causing the message I mentioned to

I have the same problem, but so far, only when entering 'tes' for 'Tesco',
when it just freezes.
I wait a few seconds then click in the line above, then back to the
original and it

I seem to recall a bug fix for a similar freezing issue in the
Description field on Windows systems. I believe that was implemented for
5.2.
If you aren't on 5.2/5.3, I'd suggest giving it a try to see if the
issue is resolved. Otherwise, perhaps step back to 4.14 for now.

This could be a big problem in that you might think you've entered

My issue is that, yes, I can retreat and go back, but it still freezes

Sorry, indeed, I missed that.
Consider stepping back to 4.14 in that case.
But also consider filing a bug report for sure so it can be addressed.

Hello all,
Just an FYI. Getting a simple count of the Finance::Quote sources used.
At least for those with v1.57 installed. I'd like to keep the counter in
place for maybe another release, but will be removed by release v1.59.
As noted in the discussion post, the ukfunds number is misleading.
The companion to autosave is retain backups. Change both of those to
values that better fit your style.

AgedLace,
Try using private or incognito mode with your browser. I just tried with
Brave in Incognito mode and got right in to wiki.gnucash.org. no login

I have been having issues lately with overly agressively protective
programs like MacAfee in my Windows machine.

One needs a login only to edit pages, not to read. When you have time and if
the problem hasn't resolved itself, try opening a terminal window and running
`traceroute wiki.gnucash.org`. If it prints more than 3 lines of * * * then
kill it with control-C.

It might feel the same but it's very much not the same. The quickfill is quite
different on 5.x from previous versions.
